What I love about Pilates

I haven’t blogged for a while, but I hope to change that. In the last couple of years, I have enhanced my understanding of how the body moves through some continuing eduction in corrective exercise. I’ll share more about that later, but what it has made me realize is that Pilates is an excellent method of corrective exercise.

Lately, Katie and I have been doing some Beginner Intro Sessions. These are truly my favorite things to do because when people experience Pilates for the first time, they are enlightened, inspired, and in love! When they come in, they don’t know that gentle exercise can be that effective. They don’t know that they don’t have to beat themselves up at a gym. They don’t know about the hidden stabilizer muscles that are our secret weapons for strength. And they don’t know that the small movements (when done correctly) in Pilates, work so many muscles all at once. You get so much bang for your buck!!

When they learn all this in just their first hour, they are so excited and I am so happy! It’s the best feeling in the world to help people with this discovery.

Our bodies are designed so masterfully, but unfortunately we override that design with our movements or habits.

I get to teach people about their stabilizers and mobilizers, their alignment, their breathing, and proper muscle recruitment patterns. Learning Pilates is like visiting another country. There is always something new to discover.
